BBSNews 2015-02-15 — By Michael Hess. The embattled and embittered Speaker John Boehner admits to Fox News that he purposely deceived the White House when inviting Israeli Prime Minister to speak before Congress.

According to an article in Bloomberg the invitation was pure deception in order to make an end run around the White House:

Boehner said he made the invitation without telling the Obama administration because he “wanted to make sure that there was no interference. There’s no secret here in Washington about the animosity that this White House has for Prime Minister Netanyahu. I frankly didn’t want them getting in the way and quashing what I thought was a real opportunity.”

The “real opportunity” is an attempt by Netanyahu to influence US foreign policy and the upcoming deal with Iran over their nuclear program by using one party, the Republicans, against the US President.

Boehner claimed on Fox News that “We’re trying to strengthen the president’s hand in these negotiations.”

Benjamin Netanyahu is not new to this Chicken Little stunt. He has been puling it since at least 1997. Two years ago Roger Cohen wrote in the New York Times about Netanyahu’s silly Chicken Little imitation going back to 1992:

Netanyahu has talked himself into a corner on Iran. He has set so many “red lines” on the Iranian nuclear program nobody can remember them. He has taken to fuming publicly over President Obama’s refusal to do the same. Of late he has juggled metaphors: Iran is now “20 yards” from “touchdown.” His cry-wolf dilemma comes right out of a children’s book. It was in 1992 that he said Iran was three to five years from nuclear capacity.

Where does this leave Palestine?

Roger Cohen made clear Bibi’s true motivation in trying to demonize Iran as a bugaboo as if there was any real doubt:

(One achievement of Netanyahu’s Iran obsession has been to relegate the critical question before Israel — the millions of Palestinian people on its doorstep — to somewhere between the back burner and oblivion. The best primer for Netanyahu’s thinking is these words from his coached buddy Mitt Romney: “I look at the Palestinians not wanting to see peace anyway, for political purposes, committed to the destruction and elimination of Israel, and these thorny issues, and I say, ‘There’s just no way.'”)
